Support for family, friends, and others affected by someone else’s addiction
Addiction doesn’t just affect the person using substances or behaviours; it affects the people around them too. You may feel worried, exhausted, confused, angry, or guilty. Many people tell us they feel stuck between caring and protecting themselves, often carrying far more than they let on.
Living alongside addiction can be isolating. Friends and family members often minimise their own needs, struggle with boundaries, or feel unsure whether they are helping or making things worse. Over time, this can take a real emotional toll.
At Cherry Tree Therapy Centre, we offer a free, therapist-facilitated Addiction Support Group for adults who are affected by someone else’s addiction, including partners, parents, siblings, friends, and other family members.
The group offers a calm, structured, and confidential space where you can talk or simply listen, without pressure or judgement. You don’t need to explain or justify your situation. Many people attend while feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or emotionally worn down.
Sessions are facilitated by qualified therapists and include a blend of gentle discussion, shared experience, and psychoeducation. Topics often include boundaries, guilt, enabling, codependency, emotional resilience, and self-care. You are never required to speak, and you are welcome to attend at your own pace.
