Support for children and reassurance for parents
Many parents come to us feeling worried, unsure, or second-guessing themselves. You may have noticed changes in your child’s behaviour, mood, or confidence, or you may simply have a sense that something isn’t quite right, even if you can’t easily put it into words.
At Cherry Tree Therapy Centre in Henley-on-Thames, we offer psychotherapy and counselling for children that is thoughtful, age-appropriate, and carefully paced. Our work supports children emotionally, while also helping parents feel clearer and more confident about how best to support them.
Parents often reach out when they’re thinking things like:
“Is this just a phase, or should I be worried?”
“My child seems anxious / withdrawn / angry and I don’t know how to help.”
“School says they’re fine, but at home things feel hard.”
“I don’t want to make things worse by doing the wrong thing.”
“They won’t talk to me — maybe they’d talk to someone else.”
You don’t need certainty to seek support. Part of the process is working things out together.
Children’s counselling focuses on creating a safe, consistent space where your child can express themselves in ways that feel natural to them. This may be through talking, play, creative work, or a combination of approaches, depending on their age and needs.
Therapy is always adapted to the individual child. Some children come for a short period of support around a specific difficulty; others benefit from longer-term work. Parents or carers are involved thoughtfully and appropriately; you are not left in the dark, but your child’s trust and confidentiality are also respected.

Many parents seek counselling because something feels different or difficult, even without a clear “problem”. You don’t need certainty; an initial conversation can help you think this through.
Children come to counselling for many different reasons, including:
Support is always discussed carefully to ensure therapy feels appropriate for your child.
Yes, in a way that feels appropriate. Parents are kept informed and supported, while also respecting the child’s need for a confidential therapeutic space.
This is very common. Therapists work gently and at the child’s pace, without forcing engagement. Initial conversations often focus on how best to introduce support.
We work with children and young people across a wide age range, from early primary school age through to adolescence. The type of therapy offered is always adapted to your child’s age, stage of development, and individual needs. If you’re unsure whether counselling would be suitable for your child’s age, we’re very happy to talk this through with you.
Fees typically range from £50 to £80 per session, depending on the therapist and type of support. We’re happy to talk through current availability and fees, and where appropriate.
Yes. While our centre is based in Henley-on-Thames, we regularly support children from the local area, such as Marlow, Hambleden, Sonning, Hurley, Nettlebed, and Shiplake. Online sessions may also be available where appropriate.
