Establishing and Maintaining a Thriving Counselling Practice
Establishing and Maintaining a Thriving Counselling Practice
This 90-minute workshop is designed for newly qualified counsellors, therapists setting up in private practice, or those who feel their practice hasn’t quite taken shape in the way they expected.
Many therapists leave training with strong clinical skills, but little clarity on how to actually build and sustain a working practice. It can feel inconsistent, uncertain, and at times frustrating.
This workshop offers a practical, real-world look at what helps a practice grow, and what often gets in the way.
We will explore:
- Setting up as a sole trader and understanding basic business requirements
- Choosing where and how to work
- Creating a clear offer and identifying your client group
- Developing a website and online presence
- Marketing approaches that are realistic and sustainable
- Contracts, boundaries, and working ethically in private practice
- GDPR, ICO registration, and managing client information
- Client assessment and working safely
- Financial considerations and managing overheads
This is not about quick fixes or marketing tricks. It’s about building a practice that feels steady, ethical, and workable over time.
You will leave with a clearer understanding of what to prioritise, what to avoid, and how to begin building a more consistent and sustainable practice.
This workshop is led by Caroline Ley, founder of Cherry Tree Therapy Centre, who has extensive experience supporting therapists in building and sustaining their private practice.
