The terms are often used interchangeably. Both involve talking with a trained professional to explore thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. Psychotherapy may involve deeper work with long-standing patterns, while counselling often focuses more on current difficulties. The most important factor is working with a therapist you feel comfortable with.
Many people aren’t sure when they first get in touch. You don’t need to be in crisis or have everything worked out. If something feels difficult, overwhelming, or stuck, therapy can offer a space to explore this and decide what support might help.
No. Therapy is available to anyone who feels they might benefit from talking things through, regardless of diagnosis.
This varies. Some people attend for a short period to focus on a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy. Your therapist will review this with you as the work develops.
Fees vary depending on the therapist and type of service. Individual counselling sessions typically range from £60–£90, with more specialist services sometimes costing more. Many of our therapists are registered with health insurance providers, so please let us know if you’re using insurance. We also offer low-cost counselling options and free support groups, subject to availability.
The first session is a chance to talk about what’s brought you to therapy and what you’re hoping for. Your therapist will explain how they work and answer any questions. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with.
You can get in touch by phone, email, or by completing one of our online forms. A member of our team will contact you to discuss next steps and availability.
Each therapist has their own cancellation policy, which will be explained before you begin. This usually involves a minimum notice period of 24 hours.
