Ciara Duggan has been trained to work with children and young people across all age groups as well as with parents. Much of her work has taken place in schools and private practice, and she has experience working with a broad range of challenges facing children and young people. Things she commonly works with include:
Ciara’s approach is primarily psychodynamic. Working with whatever the child or young person is thinking or feeling in the moment, she aims to support them to gain a deeper awareness of their emotions, thoughts, and relationships with others. Through gaining insight, children and young people can develop confidence in their ability to create change, manage difficult emotions, and pursue their goals and hopes for the future. For younger children, she offers play therapy as play is a young child’s primary way of exploring and processing their feelings and experiences.
Sometimes a child may not be willing to commit to therapy despite their parents having concerns. Or parents may not feel their child needs 1:1 therapy but want to seek professional advice and support regarding a particular issue. For situations such as these, Ciara offers parent consultations. In these sessions, she works with parents to gain a deeper understanding of their child’s behaviours and emotions. She also offers practical support that focuses on helping parents to feel more connected to their children.
