Sometimes life changes in ways we never expected. You may be living with the effects of bereavement, trauma, anxiety or depression, struggling to understand who you are after a significant loss, or feeling disconnected from yourself and those around you. Whatever has brought you to counselling, Helen offers a calm, compassionate space where you can make sense of your experiences at your own pace.
Helen is an integrative counsellor who believes that healing begins with feeling genuinely heard and understood. Rather than offering advice or quick solutions, she works alongside her clients, helping them explore what has happened, understand how it continues to affect them, and gently move towards a life that feels more hopeful and meaningful.
Before retraining as a counsellor, Helen spent many years working in the travel industry, designing bespoke journeys for adventurous travellers. By the age of thirteen, she had lived on three continents, experiencing both the excitement and uncertainty that come with moving between cultures. Later, she raised her own family abroad before eventually returning to the UK.
Helen’s own experiences have given her a deep appreciation of how change, identity and belonging can shape our emotional wellbeing. In 2012, her daughter, Jeni, died by suicide. With support, Helen gradually found resilience and hope, while continuing her counselling training and deepening her commitment to helping others navigate life’s most painful experiences.
Alongside her studies, Helen volunteered for Cruse Bereavement Care, supporting bereaved clients across Oxfordshire. She qualified in 2019 and has since worked with people facing a wide range of emotional difficulties, believing that every person’s journey towards healing is unique.
Helen works integratively, adapting her approach to the individual rather than expecting clients to fit a particular model of therapy. She believes counselling should feel collaborative, compassionate and respectful of each person’s pace.
Clients often describe Helen as someone who listens deeply, creates a warm and accepting environment, and helps them feel understood without judgement. Her aim is not simply to reduce distress but to help clients reconnect with their own strengths and discover a way forward that feels authentic to them.
Helen works with many presenting issues and has particular experience supporting people with:
