Jo is a warm, down-to-earth trainee counsellor currently in the first year of her Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling at the Counselling & Psychotherapy Training Academy in Reading. She brings a gentle, grounded presence to her work, drawing on a strong Person-Centred foundation and the core conditions of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard.
Jo offers a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace. Clients often describe her as warm, empathic and easy to talk to, appreciating the sense of being truly heard, respected and understood, especially when navigating emotions that feel confusing or difficult.
She is confident working with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, relationship challenges, bereavement, low self-esteem, identity or life direction, and trauma or difficult past experiences. Jo is also happy to work with adults of any age.
Before beginning her counselling training, Jo spent more than 10 years working in Clinical Research within the pharmaceutical industry. She later chose to step away from that career to raise her children and support her family. Since 2023, she has volunteered at Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice, offering direct care and emotional support to children, families and staff, an experience that deepened her belief in the healing power of empathy, safety and human connection.
Jo’s commitment to counselling comes from both her personal experience of therapy and what she has witnessed through her hospice work: the profound impact of being truly listened to and accepted. She aims to offer that same experience to every client she works with.
She believes you should always remain at the centre of the therapeutic process. Sessions move at a pace that feels right for you, and Jo regularly checks in to make sure you feel safe, comfortable and supported.
Availability: Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays (daytime and evening), with occasional Saturday sessions
Format: Face-to-face and online sessions available
Outside of the therapy room, Jo loves baking, long riverside walks with her Maltipoo, getting absorbed in a 1,000-piece puzzle, and spending time with family and friends, ideally involving good food.
