Jo McDermott provides confidential face-to-face counselling at the Cherry Tree Therapy Centre in Henley-upon-Thames and offers sessions online or walk-and-talk therapy if preferred.
Jo understands that taking the step towards seeking support through counselling can be daunting and often a bit of a journey into the unknown. She will take a friendly and thoughtful approach to support you through the process at every stage to meet your individual needs.
Whatever it is that you are struggling with in your life, Jo is committed to making sure you are heard and understood with respect, compassion, and without judgement.
As a therapist whose practice is rooted in the Person-Centred approach, Jo wholeheartedly believes that each client is their own best expert. Every individual is valued and accepted as themselves and for their own unique lived experience. Jo will work with you to help you to know and understand yourself better and to discover how to meet the challenges in your life in the ways that are uniquely right for you.
Aside from her counselling work and training, Jo can draw on her experiences of over two decades of supporting vulnerable people as a legal professional. It has taught her that no matter your age or life circumstances, everyone has the capacity for change, growth and healing. Whilst Jo always respects the uniqueness of an individual’s experience, her background has given her insight into supporting people living with issues including:
Addiction, anxiety, loneliness, depression, relationship breakdown, trauma, neurodiversity, and bereavement and loss.
