After a career as a youth and Community worker in both statutory and voluntary sectors, I trained as an adult integrative counsellor/psychotherapist at the University of East London, qualifying in 2014 and now am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. Over the past decade, I have been in private practice as well as working in numerous schools and educational institutions as a self-employed counsellor.
My personal style of counselling centres on the therapeutic relationship and my ability to make clients feel safe and valued whatever their issues. I have worked across the age spectrum and am an experienced couples’ counsellor. I have generally been able to attract male clients especially those who might feel reticent in undertaking therapy, particularly for the first time. I have found that the ability to connect with a client from the outset is crucial in understanding where they are coming from and formulating where they want to get to.
I have a uniquely wide experience of working with young people in many settings in addition to the counselling room. I have worked in secondary schools, a sixth form, an alternative provision college, behavioural and therapeutic pupil referral units and a complex and special needs school. Many of these schools have been in London Boroughs with students from diverse backgrounds, cultures and needs and often challenging behaviour. Conversely, I have also counselled gifted and talented students including potential Oxbridge candidates towards and through their public examinations. In addition to working in private practice, I work at Shiplake College, counselling young people from 11 – 18 years of age.
I am available at the Cherry Tree Centre on Mondays at 3pm to 9 pm.
