Vicki McDonald (she/her) is a qualified individual counsellor and trainee relationship counsellor, currently completing a Certificate in Couples Therapy at Langley Training. She works integratively, drawing on person-centred and psychodynamic approaches, and offers a calm, supportive space where clients can explore what’s going on for them at their own pace.
Vicki describes her style as warm, approachable and relaxed, while also being willing to gently challenge when it feels helpful. She places great importance on building trust within the therapeutic relationship, believing that feeling safe and understood is key to meaningful change. Clients often tell her that they feel completely comfortable bringing whatever they need to sessions, without fear of judgement, and that working with her has helped them develop greater self-empathy and understanding.
She feels particularly confident supporting people with anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, bereavement, low self-esteem, identity and life direction concerns, trauma, and addiction. Vicki enjoys working with adults across all life stages, valuing the different perspectives and experiences that each age group brings.
Before training as a counsellor, Vicki spent over 18 years working in HR at John Lewis, including roles in coaching, learning and development, and managing an internal Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing team. She also volunteered with the Samaritans for six years, leading training for new volunteers, an experience that had a profound influence on her decision to become a therapist.
