Understanding your options, without the overwhelm
Choosing counselling can feel daunting, especially when you’re met with lots of unfamiliar terms or long explanations. Many people don’t know what type of therapy they need, only that something doesn’t feel right, and they want support.
At Cherry Tree Therapy Centre in Henley, we offer a range of counselling and therapy approaches. You don’t need to understand them all before getting in touch. Our role is to help you make sense of your options and find a therapist and approach that feels right for you.
This page offers a gentle overview of some of the ways therapists at Cherry Tree work, not as a list to memorise, but as a guide to help you feel more informed and less overwhelmed.
Therapists at Cherry Tree are trained in a range of approaches. Many work integratively, meaning they adapt their way of working to you rather than following a rigid model.
You may come across terms such as:
Person-centred counselling – a supportive, non-judgemental space to explore your experiences
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – focusing on thoughts, behaviours, and coping strategies
Psychodynamic therapy – exploring past experiences and patterns that shape the present
Integrative therapy – drawing from different approaches to suit your needs
Couples and family therapy – focusing on relationships and communication
Psychosexual therapy – support with sexual wellbeing, intimacy, and relationships
You don’t need to choose one of these before contacting us. Many people begin without knowing which approach feels right, that’s completely okay.
At Cherry Tree Therapy Centre, the focus is not on fitting you into a particular model of therapy, but on understanding you as a person.
Your therapist will take time to explore what’s brought you to counselling and how you’d like to work together. The approach may evolve as therapy progresses.

If you’re unsure whether travelling or online support would work best for you, we’re happy to talk this through and help you explore your options.
