Barry Redman’s journey to becoming an integrative counsellor and coach was deeply influenced by his personal experiences with the transformative effects of therapy. Through his own healing process, he saw how counselling could help individuals confront painful issues, dismantle unhealthy coping mechanisms, and bring about profound, lasting change. Today, Barry specialises in working with individuals and couples affected by sex and porn addiction, as well as sexually compulsive behaviours, helping them navigate the complexities of recovery and relationship healing.
Barry’s career began in a different sphere, as a sustainability consultant, where he focused on protecting the external environment. However, as he embarked on his own personal growth, he was drawn to change direction, retraining to support clients’ inner worlds. Barry remains passionate about both the inner and outer environments, believing that in order to thrive, we must take care of both, preventing emotional and mental burnout while also nurturing sustainable personal growth.
Barry holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Coaching from a BACP-accredited course, allowing him to combine counselling techniques with coaching strategies. This blend of approaches is especially powerful when working with sex and porn addiction, as it addresses both the deep emotional roots of compulsive behaviours and helps clients develop healthier, goal-oriented ways forward. He understands that addiction recovery is a challenging journey, requiring not only emotional healing but also practical tools to build a more fulfilling, addiction-free life.
With a strong focus on relational work, Barry supports individuals and couples through the challenges of sex addiction recovery, helping them rebuild trust, communicate more effectively, and work through the trauma that addiction can cause in relationships. He is particularly skilled at addressing the emotional impact of addiction, offering a safe and non-judgemental space to process feelings of shame, betrayal, hurt, and confusion.
Throughout his professional and personal life, Barry has engaged in men’s groups, workshops, and seminars to deepen his understanding of human behaviour, relationships, and addiction. He believes that learning is a lifelong journey and regularly participates in activities that support his professional growth, ensuring that his practice remains up-to-date and effective.
Barry understands that reaching out for help can be a difficult first step, especially when dealing with such sensitive issues. He responds with empathy, sensitivity, and a non-judgemental approach, creating a therapeutic environment where clients feel supported. Whether you’re seeking help for sex or porn addiction or struggling with anxiety, stress, or relationship breakdowns linked to addiction, Barry offers a space for healing, growth, and positive change. His counselling style is both supportive and gently challenging, encouraging clients to push through barriers and achieve meaningful progress in their recovery.
Barry has extensive experience working with both individuals and couples, and he is one of the lead facilitators at Cherry Tree Therapy Centre, offering a Men’s Recovery Group. He offers both online and in-person sessions at the Henley-on-Thames and Buckhurst Hill locations.
