Fiona Bertram
Trainee Therapeutic Counsellor
About Me
Hi, I am Fiona, a student counsellor currently working here at the Cherry Tree Centre in Henley-on-Thames, offering face-to-face and online, low-cost sessions to clients over the age of 18. Following a successful career in Marketing, I made the decision to leave the corporate world in 2020 and follow my dream to become a counsellor.
We all experience times throughout our lives when we could do with a bit of extra support. This could be for a number of different reasons including unresolved childhood issues, relationships, behaviour patterns, past or present life events, difficult situations or uncomfortable feelings, emotions or thoughts.
My role as a pluralistic therapist is to work within my skill and competence level to provide my clients with a safe and supportive environment where they feel comfortable to speak freely and share their story.
I am not there to offer advice, judge or provide an instant solution or quick fix but instead I help my clients to explore their concerns and difficult or painful thoughts, feelings and experiences, allowing them to develop a better understanding of themselves and others.
I am trained in various counselling approaches, including Psychodynamic, Person-Centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), allowing me to respect each client as a unique individual and adapt my therapeutic style and methods to suit their specific needs, goals and wishes.
I fully appreciate that counselling can be a big commitment, in terms of time, money and emotional resource so with this in mind I always work openly and honestly with my clients in a collaborative and fluid way to ensure that they feel they are getting maximum benefit from their sessions.
I have worked with clients on a range of presenting issues including stress, anxiety, addiction, grief and loss, relationships, illness, low self-esteem and lack of confidence.
As well as my work at Cherry Tree Centre, I also volunteer as a student counsellor at Aspire in Oxford, an employment charity and social enterprise who support vulnerable members of the community facing challenges such as homelessness, poverty, addiction and mental health difficulties.
